Backyard Beekeeping is a Fun, Exciting Adventure that Offers Many Benefits to You, Your Family and the World Around YouHello future beekeeper,
When I first became interested in the idea of keeping bees, I put in countless hours of exploration into the world of beekeeping. As I surfed the Internet and read books on the subject, it started becoming apparent to me that beekeeping might not be for me. It was looking way to complicated. Sure, I was interested in beekeeping, but the deeper I looked, the more complicated everything seemed to be. I didn't want to become a commercial beekeeper, I just wanted to have the experience of keeping bees. I wanted to produce honey for myself and to share with my friends. I also wanted to see if there was anything I could do to help restore the honeybee population since I was aware that it had been steadily declining with no end in sight. It was on this journey that I discovered some of the pioneering work done by some very dedicated people. I was encouraged because they seemed to have the same goals as me. They were working to create and refine a type of bee hive that was simpler and less expensive to start and operate. The hive I'm referring to is called a "top bar hive" (TBH for short). The people who helped me learn about TBH's are people like Marty Hardison and James Satterfield who have a real passion for what they do and have put a lot of work into furthering the idea of Top Bar Hives. So started my new hobby of beekeeping as I set out to determine if top bar hives would work for me. Let me share with you here some of what I have learned -- you may find, just like I did, that the TBH is an excellent choice for non-commercial beekeepers. This method not only provides all the benefits of beekeeping, but is simpler, healthier for the bees, and more enjoyable for you, the beekeeper! Top bar hives are an easy, inexpensive way to keep bees in your own back yard. Next steps on your journey: |
