Q. What do you recommend as the best overwinter feed? Is sugar water in a topfeeder recomended?
A. Typically, we don't feed our bees over winter unless it's been a really hard one and when we check on them their honey stores are depleted. Most of our harvesting is done in the spring, thus letting the bees keep their honey stock during the hard months. If they do need some extra help, we recommend mixing honey with a little warm water to make it a bit less sticky, putting it in a shallow lid or "bowl", and placing twigs in the honey so the bees can land and eat without getting stuck in the honey and drowning.
